Florida Big Brother of the Year: Matthew Billitti

Congratulations Matthew Billitti!

Big Brothers Big Sisters Association of Florida is proud to recognize Matthew Billitti of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach & Martin Counties as Florida’s Big Brother of the Year. Over the years, Matthew has exemplified the impact of consistent, compassionate mentorship, helping his Little, Joshua, grow in confidence and resilience through every stage of their match.

Matthew explains why he became a Big: “I wanted to make a meaningful impact in a young person’s life, the same way others once showed up for me. Mentorship is a shared experience where both people learn, grow, and challenge each other.” From the first meeting, Matthew committed to showing up consistently and engaging fully with Joshua, offering guidance, encouragement, and shared experiences that built trust and connection.

Building Confidence Through Shared Interests

Joshua, who is autistic, has grown in confidence and self-assurance thanks to Matthew’s steady presence. Together, they explore hobbies and interests, including learning to play card games and sharing other activities Joshua loves. Matthew’s patience and willingness to meet Joshua where he is has made their time together meaningful and fun.

Joshua says, “Matthew has helped me feel more confident and understand how important I am. I have another adult I can trust who helps me when I need it.”

Mentorship That Extends Beyond the Match

Matthew’s impact reaches far beyond his one-to-one match. He has appeared live on television twice representing the agency, volunteered at numerous events, supported fundraising efforts, and served as an advocate for Big Brothers Big Sisters in the community. Through his professional network, he has helped secure grants, introduced corporate partners, and strengthened the organization’s mission.

A Mentor and Role Model

Matthew has shown that consistent mentorship builds trust, opens doors, and creates lasting confidence. His dedication as a volunteer, donor, ambassador, and board member demonstrates the full breadth of what it means to be a Big Brother, inspiring other volunteers and making a difference for youth across Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

Be Part of a Story Like This

Across Florida, many children are waiting for a mentor who will show up consistently and support their growth. Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister offers the opportunity to change a life while building a meaningful connection that lasts for years.

Matthew Billitti’s example reminds us that true mentorship is measured not by grand gestures, but by showing up, listening, and believing in a young person every single day.
